Default rear deck vents

Curious, of course not in the purist world but I was wondering does anyone have their rear vents sealed shut?

Hey Bats, if you mean the side vents (what others would there be) yes, well they were until like on the old nose I cut them out to remove the clip.

FWIW, with a convertible with A/C they are non-functional: no entrance to interior cabin.

Yes...those, so on ac cars they are different to my 69 that came with no ac, ( I will be adding am ac )

I was looking at how they open and close with vacuum and would rather just disconnect them, I have seen posts that seem divided if they even helped much anyway....

My 70 was air con but it was all removed way back. As Paul 74 said on the ac cars the rear vents for the astro ventilation are blanked off, I removed the blanking plate and just leave them open, every bit helps with the heat soak I figured. I also discovered this week that driving around with the rear window out but the t tops on works quite well:-)

You can see the garage floor in this pic. The vents are just cosmetic on my car.

I have a coupe, and I`m not planning to close mine.... in fact I`m playing with the idea of an electric operation, maybe with something like a door lock or window motor.
Now bats, I think the flapper doors are normally closed, and the vacuum opens them... so if you just left them they should be closed. A new gasket set was only about ten bucks.
iwasme....when we tore into our car for the rebuild, the plenum was full of leaves, dirt, and sticks. After paint, I glued black fiberglass window screen on the bottom of the vents to help keep it a little cleaner. If you didn`t know it was there, you`d never notice it.....

If you peak behind the rear compartment wall , if I remember correctly , the factory had a fiberglass cover glassed in to cover the non AC astro vent cars duct . Mine is like yours ...only pavement visible . Was weird tho.....when I bought the car ...million years ago...it had chrome plated vents . I bought NOS GM un painted from Zip , LOL ...they were like 20.00 a pair ...back when Zip had a lot of NOS parts on the shelf

My car was originally a non-AC car. But back in the day when it was my daily driver the hole would get plugged then fill up w/ water and get it the car. I siliconed mine and screwed them shut- and added vintage air.

Not trying to give purists stomach cramps on this one but I am doing something of a road race old school look,
I want remote jumper lugs on the rear and one of the big flaming rivers style kill switches, well I saw a picture of a racer that had the kill switch in the driver side rear deck vent, I can't see how it's mounted but thats a great close to battery location thats easy to get at.....

I have a non-A/C coupe and the vents work very well.

When driving in the fall, in a slight rain, they pull a nice flow of air out the rear with the windows up and the tops on. I have also never had an issue with plugging of the drains, etc. I'd say keep them if they work!

My coup came with A/C and these things are just dirt collectors. When I wash the car, they always produce a water trail down the deck after I have dried the car off.

I'm going to look for some chrome plates ones now. Mine are black and always look dirty.

Not even close. I already had some of the aluminum stock, and I got the stainless for free. My CNC guy is a retired GM "toolie" that does fabrication out of his home garage shop for very reasonable rates. I did the polishing.

Total cost was just under $100
