Default 68 VERT Windshield Header Molding Question

Need to start looking for the upper windshield trim and molding to fit my 68. Some ads show the parts fitting 68 to 76 but others show the 68 as being one year only. I think the long stainless center piece will be the same but my real concern is the chrome left and right end caps. Would it be possible to use the later year parts since they seem to be easier to come by and prices are a lot more reasonable. This is my first convertible and the car came with nothing but body and frame. I have plenty of left over t-top parts and it would be great if some of them would work. And one foot note, nothing on this car is original!
Thanks in advance,
Norm

Calling Doorgunner...He has a 68 'vert project too and I am not sure it even started as a 'vette...
I believe when purist, numbers matching ncrs winner isn't the motive lots of these parts interchange to make the car YOU want.

Actually....it was a '68 'Ette with '76 caps....but I'm slowly turning it into a Vette.

I don't know if the trim will fit the '68....I would buy a generic repro' if it did fit since mine is dinged up/I might not be able to work the dings out!

Would any Forum members know the facts on this subject?

Like everything else on a 68, the end moldings are different. The 68's have a flatter curve to them than the 69-76. I had to replace mine with the newer ones, and they are hard to make look right. Passenger side wasn't too bad, but making the driver side fit was about impossible. They curve up way higher in the back than a 68 does. This messes up the 68 top stainless piece, which is different and has no screw holes in it.
Also the long thin windshield reveal molding is curved more on the ends on the early ones. My coupe is 26 March build and the late 68-76 molding is straighter on the ends than mine, and would not fit right. I think that some early 69's have the no hole top SS molding and so would have the 68 flatter end moldings.
I hope that this helps. Lou.

Thanks Lou,
That certainly makes my choice a lot easier. Stopped by and talked to a couple of Zip's guys today, both of which have a bachelors degree in vet 101, so it seems my best plan of attack is to convert everything over to 69 or newer. My hardtop is 70 something and it will not line up with 68 corner trim pieces. The latches on my convertible top can be changed over to work with the newer design. I think we have a plan so thanks to ZIP and LOU.
