Default Old Paint Considerations?

Not certain I still have the original paint on my white 73. There doesn't seem to be any obvious over spray. Lots of road rash all the way thru and some significant checking/flaking. If it isn't original, it is at least very very old. I'm not ready to have her repainted. But I think I need to be rather careful of how I treat and clean the painted surfaces. If I were to use a power spray or orbital waxer, I think I'd lose large areas of paint.

Any suggestions from the forum on how to handle delicate paint?

While you are in the right area for your 73, this question might be covered under "General Corvette Topics > Paint / Body" Lots of great car care tips over there.

Next, post some pictures of what you are seeing. Do you have some bare fiberglass areas? Do you think it is still the lacquer paint job?

One of the biggest things to keep in mind when cleaning cars is being like a doctor. Do no harm. Start gentle and do things by hand. See how the paint reacts.

The Paint/Body forum has great info and some real pros who know the ins and outs of these fiberglass cars. The one thing I'd like to throw out there right away so you don't do it while you're trying to improve your paints condition is... Keep all waxes and other "shine-up" stuff (silicone) away from those areas you mentioned where the paint has flaked off. Primer and bare fiberglass will absorb that stuff and when you go to paint it, it will haunt you in various ways.

Use common sense. Based on what you posted, wash and wax by hand.
