75 Fuel tank shield

I'm asking if anyone with a 75-77 eliminated the fuel tank shield on their resto...my Vette is far from numbers matching so I am not going for "points" and the flimsy way the shield is made really doesn't seem like it would do much in a rear crash. Any feed back?? Thanks

I'm not to the C3 but in most cars that shield isn't for crash protection it's a heat shield.

Thanks gentleman ...just seems larger then any of the shields on prior or later models just for 75-77...back it goes.
