I am going to put some loud mufflers on my 70. I'm thinking of the Flowmaster 40 series or Magnaflows. Any thoughts or opinions would be very much appreciated.

At least Flowmaster tells you this up front "The 40 series (aggressive) will generally resonate or “drone” inside the vehicle, around 1800-2000 rpm, and again around 2400-2600 rpm".

If you want louder then Flowmasters.

I have the Magnaflows which are not overwhelmingly loud.

I have 40's on the 455 GTO they sound correct for that car.
I put dual chamber mufflers & X pipe on the stock 75 auto coupe and it sounds like a kids car. They are loud to the point where I am going to change them with something else. I am thinking about turbo mufflers.

I have standard mufflers and they're just too quiet. Is a chambered underbody exhaust on a 350 ever really that aggressive, or am I underestimating how loud a 350 can be?

I put Flowmaster 40s on my 69' 2 weeks ago. I'm dropping it off tomorrow to get them swapped out with Magnaflows. Enough said!

I have Magnaflows on my 70 convertible. They are louder than stock at idle & cruise speeds but not to the point you can not have a conversation or hear the radio, etc. But under hard acceleration they sound great, to me at least and I get positive comments from anyone behind me.

Flowmasters on a vette are very loud & drone. I've read somewhere this is due to the lack of exhaust pipes after the muffler. Don't remember where I saw that though.

Funny story from my parents back in the day. The local corvette club was displaying cards in the local mall. They were driving them into place until security came running up telling them to cut their engines because someone was setting off all the store alarms lol.

I had Flowmasters and they were very loud, not by definition or opinion, just LOUD. At idle and any rpm. Some drone inside cabin, but still ok for that aspect.

The extremely cammed SB may have also contributed to the sound level, Hooker Super Comp headers and 2,5" duals with H-pipe.
But i don`t think they would have been significantly different on a more civilized motor with a smaller cam, maybe a bit.

A friend in a side road, a few minutes to walk to him, told me his windows vibrated in the frames when i drove off from from my place.
All the neighbors faces showed up in the windows when i started in the garage.
Some people showed me signs to slow down even when i was at normal speed, sometimes, like at a gas station, someone came to interview me why that car is so extremely loud.
With cops around i had to keep it at idle, then it was a little less. But not to easy with the big camshaft to drive it at low rpm, had to use the clutch for it.

Although the sound has a somehow tinny note to it, with that engine the Flowmasters fascinated me, no matter at idle or when i revved it, where it really screamed. Different, but nice. Pure race sound.

After the swap i have also felt they clearly helped for power - on a more normal SB i don`t know how big that effect would be, but that engine/cam was very responsive to the exhaust.

There is not much inside them, so it should be clear they are more racing exhaust noise level.
I don`t have a side view, but on that picture are the pipes that i added to them.

Because of the bullying over the years i modified them a bit to be more quiet and get some of the light tone out of them.
I don`t have a side view of the pipes that i got welded onto the mufflers, but they were around 12" long, so there was space to add some layer of fiber into it.
The wool in the four pipes reduced the noise and took away some of the shrill tone.
Unfortunately that also reduced power, but i think two layers of wool have been one layer to much.

The Flowmasters on that car were really cool at idle and gave me goosebumps when i revved it, but on the current build, if i wouldn`t already have Sideys for it, i would try out Magnaflows.
Not because those have a more saturated, deeper and more quiete sound, but for the same reason i would not go back to the super-big camshafts ( On a street driven car ) that don`t run well down low:
At some point it starts touching your nerves.
