does anybody know the member with the orange corvette that lives in Tyler tx. I was wondering how he did the glowing corvette letters in the back but I can't find him anywhere

Well now I guess it wasn't him I've looked through all his pics and can't find anything. I was looking on here the other daily and someone had the newer style letters and had them molded in and they would lite up it was so cool but now I can't find them maybe brandons72vette just commented on it or something. I don't know but I wish I could find it again

You are talking about brent, I cant think of his full name a 73 with L-88 flares orange/red car and modern font for the letters,
I dig it but would have used a classic font,
He worked hard on that but it's a basic cut out the letters and back light them like mike did in the 80's.
Back in the early 80's around here ( orlando ) was a bright orange 69 very custom the front where the grill was had been filled recut all the way across with "CORVETTE" and orange back lit, the font was horrible, ruined it for me....The font looked like "shecreature"

I remember the post you are talking about. It was a white late c3 with early c3 bumpers and the new lettering grafted in. It had lots of custom work done to it. I'm gonna go look and see if I can find it for you.

If it was mine you are thinking of then it is a inferno orange 76 with custom image flares and a rear (73) bumper we made from scratch.
I made a fiberglass blank and had the script cut with a cnc router. Then I filled the letters with a clear casting resin to make a lens of sorts to keep it all flush and also support the cutouts. Then the piece was grafted in and block sanded. Then it had to be masked off to paint. Then back masked to spray with clear to maintain level. then I built a reflector box to put over the back so the light indirectly lights the script to even it out. There is a set of red LEDs that is hooked to the marker lights that just glow a bit and a very bright set that comes on when the brakes are applied. There is a relay setup that over rides the red and turns it white when it is put into reverse. It does not really cast any light, but lets people know I am backing up, but more importantly, I think it looks kind of cool.
It was not the hardest thing ever done to one of these cars, but I would not say it was easy. :-)
If the white one you are thinking of is an 82 CE with similar flares, chrome bumpers, and a newer stingray script on the back then it is being done in the same shop where I did mine. The letters don't light up, but I really like the car.
Brandons72vette your car is amazing you should be very proud I hope I can get mine to look that good one day. The13bats would you mind elaborating a little more please because I wouldn't have a clue where or how to start?

Brent (kinda of cool) doesn't even begin to describe how cool it is and the fact that it lights up takes it to another level hopefully I can figur out a way to do something similar to mine

Thank you. With the help of all of us at the CF, all of our C3's have the potential to be the best they can be. Post some pictures of your car and your build. If your car turns out even half as cool as Brent319's '76, you will have a sweet C3!

This is the only pic I have at the moment but this is my starting point pretty good shape to me but there is a lot of things I want to do it
Yeah I remember your car now. What all are you planning on doing to the car? It is a blank canvas....
Well I just got it so I'm not 100% yet. But we got it for my dad this time last year for his birthday and he always said he wanted a marina blue corvette with side pipes. So in his honor that's the two things I'm defiantly going to do. Other then that I'm not real sure I will defiantly put new interior in it I want to maybe give it a little more power nothing crazy but I want it to be reliable and a few custom things along the way. I would really like to do the corvette third brake light like Brent but that looked like it was pretty hard to do and im not experienced enough to do that so idk

from the picture it looks like a nice vette. THAT is a very nice present! Hope you get to do the things you want to it. Keep us posted on your progress and if you run into problems* post them up. Somebody here has done whatever it is you come up against.
Good luck!
Nice 81, they are fun to mod, I liked them so much I had two 81's the first when it hit 100K miles around 88-89 I rebuilt it,
When it left the paint booth Batman was in all the movie houses so I had to tell a lot of people don't say the "B" word...
Most of this work was done where you see the car or in the carport behind it...
As far as the 3rd brake light It can be done many different ways and can be as easy or as complicated as the builder wants to make it, I have done a lot of one off tail lights and 3rd brake lights in old cars and mini trucks, making everything from scratch,
While I dig the way Brent made his flush I would have to do mine recessed and the old script...I'm old school that way...but I do not believe it will fit with the tail light treatment I desire, I don't like the round lights on the c3's.
