Default Door Handle

Hey Guys; I have the driver side door handle loose , the two nuts were not a problem at all and the rod has been disconnected so the whole thing is loose but will not come out. it seems as though something is holding it on the left side near the jam. It will raise about a 3/8ths inch on the right side but only 1/8th on the left side. What could possibly be keeping it in place. All threads seem to indicate that it just lifts out. Any thoughts ?
BTW it's a 73 Vert.

Can you shine a bright light on it.....I can't remember if there is some sort of small arm that engages something else in there.

Hey DG ; no way to shine a light, just not enough clearance. I can get my hand behind the handle and can feel the latch where the rod connects , there seems to be enough clearance for it to move up but something else is keeping it from coming out, maybe something is bent on that left side keeping the latch part from moving up . I'll keep trying.

I have used my phone to look into some of those places either by taking pictures or just watching the screen.

Try holding the "inside housing" with one hand and pushing the "button" all the way in with the other hand while gently wiggling/lowering the mechanism downward inside the door.

You also might have to remove the "bear-claw"/latch mechanism to drop the push-button housing down and out.

DG; After two and half hours of wrestling with this door handle I decided it was time for drastic measures. I cut out the handle flapper ( the part you push down on) pretty much destroying it then I could manipulate the latch and it came right out. Placing it beside the new one I could see that the old latch was bent over just enough to keep it from clearing the mounting bracket. Thanks for your input and all others who replied, it helps to bounce things around.

I mis-understood and was giving you the wrong info....I was thinking about the push=button mechanism

One of my handles came out easily....I had to literally knock the other door handle out from beneath/inside the door
