HELP: What is wrong with this VIN?

HELP: What is wrong with this VIN?

I try to run an auto check or carfax report and get an error. I am reading the vin from the door sticker:

1G1AYC786C5111872

I appreciate some help with this.

Hi J,

I believe your 6th character should be a "0" which will make it a collectors edition. Give that a shot.

Thanks. It is a 0, just could not read it correctly.

You can't run a C3 VIN through CarFax. The number of digits changed at some point - maybe in the 80's - but I don't think any C3 VIN will get a result. I think there is or used to be a sticky thread on this subject.

Thanks. I got it resolved. I should have taken the VIN from the VIN plate, not the door sticker, and I had one digit wrong.
