I have noticed a lot lately, when I have my 70 LT1 out, everyone seems to ask me if it's a Big Block. Most people seem to want my car to be a big block because they knew somebody at one time that had one. I don't mind, it's actually funny most times.

Tell them your SB LT-1 eats BBs for breakfast. I'd take your (70) LT-1 anyday over a BB.

Hi Stingray,
Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, but do you know the LT-1 uses a big block hood? Or, do you think people do not know this fact and are asking aimlessly?

I know the hood is them same. I think some way recognize the hood, but I think most probably are just asking aimlessly. I guess if they recognize the hood as a bb hood, they would see the "LT-1" lettering on it. But who know? My neighbor thought that I was running a V12. I actually do not mind answering these questions. I guess it's when they stop looking and asking questions is when I should be upset!

I think that the only people that know about Corvettes are Corvette owners. Since, most know so little about these cars, we all should cut them some slack. I had an older guy ask me if the lock on my left front fender was a hood lock. I took the time and explained to him about the factory alarm. Nothing wrong with educating the general public about these old cars.
The general public assumes that a big block Corvette has 6,000 horsepower and does 0-60 in 2.1 seconds. They also assume that just due to the aerodynamic look of the car that a Corvette handles like an Indy car.
You should see their faces when I tell them that their Honda Accord has more HP than my stock 72 BB came with from the factory. The mid 70's were not good times for horsepower, but all anyone seems to remember are tire chewing, rumbling exhaust monsters.
But hey, I still get a little smile when I tell them 'yeah, its a big block.' Or better yet, when someone asks what a big block is, I say 'your car is, what, maybe a 1.8 Liter engine?....well, this is a 7.4.....thats usually when their jaws drop.

My neighbor thinks I just have a 327cu under the L-88 hood-but it's actually a 327 cu V12. Go figure!!!
My wife once asked me why the most common question about my '69 L71 is "is it a big block?"
All I could answer is that having a big block is like being hung like John Holmes. It's great to show off but in the real world isn't all that practical. But...it is good to be the King!
From: I tend to be leery of any guy who doesn't own a chainsaw or a handgun.

What's not practical with a BB in "the real world"?
