Default Starting my '76 project...

I bought the car in August, 2014. Brought it home, changed the plugs and got an alignment and I was able to drive it for the rest of the summer.

I'm starting this thread to log my progress and to get advice from all you more experienced members.

Eventually I am going to re-do the whole interior, but I'm going to paint it first (starting that early this April).

When I bought it it had ProCar Pro-90 buckets and lap belts. I pulled the seats (too tall) and installed '96 rear seat 3-point Camaro belts. I am in the process of installing C5 seats in it.

When I bought it it had a rebuilt 350 with about 9,000 miles on the build. Punched .040, Edelbrock intake and 600 cfm Edelbrock carb.

I'm 17 and am funding and restoring this myself, so this is going to be a long road But, I do have knowledgeable friends and brothers that are helping me from time to time.

Only picture that I have on this computer from last year, my brothers 2014 Charger RT and my Stingray:

The journey is often more satisfying than the destination.

Make it something you are proud of.

A little patience will help too.

Btw - if a vette is your first car imagine what your bucketlist car will be!

I have full intentions of making it something I'm proud of. Thanks for the advice!

Nice looking ride. Nice to see a growing number of young people getting into these cars. Looking forward to following your progress as I do a few others.

Glad to see you here and documenting your work! Good to see younger generations being around these great cars and wrenching on them.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

Seat install is coming along. I need some more hardware and some more metal stock. I had the passenger side seat installed on the original sliders, but it didn't line up exactly where I wanted, it was to far to the right. I just need to make a few changes and the one seat should be done tonight, but I am leaving it out of the car until I get new leather for the seats. I'm taking plenty or pictures for anyone interested. I'll probably post some tonight.

I'll probably buying these covers:

They replace the OEM covers and are real leather rather than synthetic.

Here's what I'm planning on painting with:

http://www.paintforcars.com/kits_5Star_blackmet.html
http://www.paintforcars.com/primer_epoxy.html

There are two spots on the car where it was sanded too low into the gelcoat (according to the guy who painted it before I bought it). Do I need to gelcoat these spots, or will it be fine to prime them when I prime the whole vehicle with the epoxy primer?

Thanks,

-Marshal

The car never had gelcoat, unless maybe an aftermarket piece, and my understanding is you don't want to use gelcoat on SMC panels. Is there a low spot or gouge, if so use some vette panel adhesive to fill in. If not just prime after prep and you should be fine.

Awesome. There are two blisters that will need a thin amount of filler. Thanks for the advice!

Still waiting on the seat covers and I need to get hardened bolts for the brackets I made.

But I did order paint

Very impressed with this place http://www.paintforcars.com/ Very fast shipping; I got the whole order about 3 business days after I placed the order. Pretty decent prices too...

*I went with "Jet Black" rather than the metallic black I was going to get before...
