My 25+ year old 5hp 20 gallon tank 150 psi max single stage sears compressor needs to be replaced. It did a fair job and was rated at 9.3 cfm @ 90psi I don't want anything smaller and want to go with a 60 gallon vertical tank. Can easily upgrade power to 30 amp 220 volt. The old sears is on a 20amp 220volt ckt.
Am looking for suggestions. I have looked at many lately and have really heard many good things about the 2 stage 5hp at harbor freight. Also have heard a few horror stories with that unit. It is onsale until the end of this month for $799 item #93274 It has some impressive stats for the cost and looks pretty well built.
We just installed an Ingersoll Rand 80 gallon compressor and it is NIGHT AND DAY difference from our previous tank (60 gal Kobalt). I would absolutely recommend it
It is pricey, but only a rich man can afford cheap tools.
Don't want to go larger than 60 gallon. Thanks for the quick replies also interested in how long you have had your recommended unit. Most of my work is restoration and bead blasting is about the heaviest air need I have.
my 240V 60 gallon craftsman is 19 years old and counting. it is in its third house. I have spent more on electricians running 240 volt outlets to the garage than what I paid for the compressor.
it does make the devil's own noise in that it is a direct drive electric unit. I have to close the garage door when running to keep the neighborhood noise ****'s from complaining. I would buy the separate pump unit driven by a belt... much quieter.
