Great idea. Love my sidepipes, dont like the look/cost of heat shields, but I'm always getting burned so this is something I have to think about.

I agree, the cost for shields is absurd. $200 seems about right, 500-600 is just plain greedy. Good job on yours!

What kind of heat shields are these are these for the side pipes or just the inserts. Scroll almost to the bottom of the page.

These shields are for hooker style side pipes with 4" OD pipes.

Looks like self tapping screws attached the Mounting Strip to the Shield. But how did you fasten the Mounting Strip to the Exhaust Pipe?

Here is a quick drive around

I used rivets to rule out screws coming loose due to vibration. Then I used 4" hose clamp inside u channel and around side pipe to attach it.

That tubing is .125" thickness, right?

Yes I used a variable speed jig saw and kept it a slow speed for blade life and to reduce any possible kick back, I also like to practice my patients.
