I am trying to remove the windshield wiper motor. When I tried to remove the nuts that mount the motor to the firewall, they just spin on the stud. Any suggestions?
These studs break off really easy and there is no warning.
There is a large stud head in the wiper tub that you might be able to get a small vice grip on.
Even if you manage to hold the head, you will still risk snapping the stud off. Maybe try and get a small butane torch into the nut might help. But there is a rubber cushion there as well.
I've looked for replacement studs and have not found any.
At this point, the nut threads (or stud threads) are already stripped. If it's the stud, replacing it with a bolt seems easy. Just trying to figure a way to remove the nut first. I think cutting it with a small dremel tool is the answer, just wanted to see if anyone else had a fix. This is on a 77 in case there were design changes along the way.
