Default Engine Numbers

A buddy of mine just picked up a 76. I think it may have been repowered at one point in her life. Does any know how to decode a Engine Vin. He texted me this from the engine stamp... 4MO4294VP. Can anyone make heads or tails out of that..

I can't, but we know it is not a Corvette engine code. It's likely to be an over the counter crate engine.

It's a "GoodWrench" universal replacement 350 from GM.

It's easy to decode the "M" info;
M = Mexico, Toluca Engine Assembly
Next 4 # = Assembly dates
next # = year
VP = GM 350/200hp (nominal) set-up for manual (pilot bushing installed) low compression general application replacement engine.
