Default Front Clip Storage

OK folks, I need to hear some of your brilliant ideas!

I hadn't planned on removing the front clip during my '71 frame-off, but the need to repair one lower windshield corner and completely replace the other, now makes that an unfortunate necessity.

I'm looking for ideas on how and where to best store the clip once it's been removed. My garage is somewhat space limited with the chassis on wheel rollers, the body on a full size dolly and the engine, transmission and differential all going on stands or carts.

Do you just set it aside, stand it in a corner, or build a mini-dolly for it?

About how heavy is it? Can it be easily carried down to a walk-out basement? Could it be suspended from the garage ceiling using a custom harness or is it too flimsy?

Thanks for your help and comments.

We bought a front clip for our 71. The seller had it sitting on some old tires. We brought it home on the trailer with those foam blocks that you would use to put a canoe on your car roof. Got it home, set it in the driveway until it was time to flip it upside down and dig out the rivet bumps. Even with fender wells in, it was easy for two people to carry. It won`t hurt it to sit outside till you`re ready for it. And you could strap a tarp over it if you want also.

Default clip

Mine is very similar. It's on the floor with the front on a padded dollie and the rear tabs sitting on packaging foam.

It was easy for me to work on it on the dollie. Where the red pad is is where the dollie is.

GTO & R,

Thanks for the replies. Looks like you both came up with ways to handle the clip "problem" that worked for you. I'm sure I'll do the same, ...just hoping for an idea that would have ended up being the "cat's meow!"

...I'm thinking a big helium balloon in the engine compartment area would just float the entire clip up to the ceiling and keep it out of the way...

Funny that you should mention floating it on the ceiling......make a wooden brace for it and.............

Leave it on the ceiling until you need it.......that's what I do with my hardtop.

Yes... O gage "garden train". There`s two tracks,an upper *& lower. Water pumps from small pond, thru a pitcher pump, into a waterfall to the large pond, then flows down the river back to the small pond again.
