Default 1976 Corvette new engine?

Hi, I have a 76 vette. This past weekend a rod went through the side of my cylinder wall and I need to replace the original 350 block. I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations for an engine to put in the car that would help the value of the car and would be a good replacement engine. Some choices that I was looking at were (283,350, 383, 400, 427 bbc and 454 bbc). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Don Steiner

Well I would suggest to stay with the sm block unless you have a fat wallet. Engine weight can change ride height etc. Cooling needs are greater, mounting...etc. I suggest a 383 stroker crate motor...unless smog is an issue. same block, good power, direct fit. If moneys not an issue, Gotta love a big block. Although not an option for 76. 74 was the last 454.......And there is this

Anything but a 283.

Default BluePrint 383

I'm using a BluePrint Engines 383 in my 79. Haven't run it yet but by all reports they are a pretty strong motor. Reasonably priced too I think. I couldn't have built an engine for what I paid for it (I would have had to pay for labour) Check them out on this forum. There was a recent thread about it.

LS1 swaps have gotten pretty cheap. Plus, fuel injection is nice.

He needs to consider hood clearance if he choose a carburetor.

Depending on the intake most all small blocks are the same height. The LS would sit lower though.
