Default Rear Drops when Put in Drive

Just got this 79 Vette after having an 84. It's an automatic. When I put it in Drive the rear end drops. Kind of cool feels like it's about to jump but I know it's not normal to do that.

Shocks, tranny mount, not sure. Any ideas? Anyone had this happen before where the back end drops when you put it in drive?

Thanks,

My '71 does the same. Not a lot, but noticeable.

That's normal, every C3 I've been in does it.

My '68 project would drop about 1&1/2" when put in Drive. I replaced the longest leaf on the springpack and installed new shocks.......

now it only drops about 1/2" when I put it in Drive....when I romp on it, it drops half as much as it previously did.....the front end raises about 2 inches.

It now has the same feel as my '69 Camaro which had traction bars.

Just a fact of life with IRS. Driveshaft pulls the differential down as the pinion gear tries to climb the ring gear.

If the front snubber bushing is worn out the drop might be excessive

Yeah, just an IRS thing. Every car I've owned that had IRS did this. I think that it's pretty cool actually.

I agree. Check the condition of this bushing, mine was shot. Squat greatly improved with this. http://www.parts123.com/corvettecent...50g&ukey=11791

Thanks,
This same thing freaked me out last year when I first got my car too.I hadn't even thought about it this Spring until this thread. I also believe it is due to the IRS so it's normal.

If you don't find yourself sitting on the pavement, all is well.

Mine does the same thing. Something I look forward to because it has been a feeling I get from owning my first Vette back in 1981, and every automatic since then.

Agree especially if you start hearing a clunk when putting them in gear or letting out the clutch. most automatically think rear end issues but more times than not, it's the bushing wearing/wore out.

You should see the two divots in the grass, when putting an automatic L88 in drive!

With two feet on the brake!
