I am having a great deal of difficulty removing my windshield does anyone have any ideas?
Some people use a twisted 2 strand piece of wire that they push through the sealer in a corner. Then proceed to move it back and forth moving around the windshield. The piece of wire is about 24 - 32 inches long.

You also have to keep the butyl separated as you go or it will stick together again. As you work your way around, put some shims between the glass and frame to help keep them separated. Trick is to keep the butyl from sticking back together.
my 2 cents, I used guitar string wrapped around wooden dowels, one on the inside and one on the outside. Then, used a sawing action around the perimeter. And started in an upper corner after threading the wire through the windshield seal.
You can also use a piano wire or you can buy a windshield removal kit on ebay pretty cheap which has 2 handles and a wire.
I removed 2 windshields but cracked both getting them out. One was already cracked so no loss, but the second I would have reinstalled if I could have gotten it out intact.
So, I think from talking to others, the likelyhood of cracking the windshield getting it out is pretty good. The upper and sides did great but the across the bottom is where the crack occurred for me. Any advice on better ways is appreciated too.
Hope this helps.

What year is your car? I would think that those with 68-72 cars would have to remove the wiper door in order to get adequate access to the bottom of the windshield.
The glass guys use a reciprocating type tool with a flat flexible blade to reach the lower portion of the windshield. Works like a charm. If you want to save the glass, call an auto glass company and ask what their cost would be for removal.

I used picture hanger wire from Home Depot and a hair dryer. It was a pain in the butt, but I'd do it again if needed. This way I know the surfaces will be totally clean for the new windshield.
The sawing wire method didn't work well for me. Mine cracked while I was attempting to remove it. A hammer was then easily used to complete the task!! Hope you have better results!

the wire method worked well but i still cracked the window by not cutting properly around the bracket on the bottom that the windshield sits on and dont think you have enough cut and try pushing the window out thats where i made my mistake. mine is a 74 so no wiper door but take out the wipers good luck
