See attached pictures from my original '69 non-A/C L36 . I vaguely remember discussing this same subject on the NCRS website and according to these photos...that was back in October 2010. If your car is non-A/C, the dipstick should probably be the same as mine. As to the red button year and engine...that was also discussed, along with part numbers. Since letting my membership expire, I have not even returned to their Technical Discussion Board as a temporary guest. Give it a try. Sorry I can't be more help.

I believe all '67 to '69 427s used the same white plug dipstick, AC or non AC... but I am only repeating what I have read. My car is in storage at Dave Walters shop. I happen to be back in Miami and will be swinging by to look at it one of these days. Having worked on vettes and muscle cars for well over 50 years, Dave can look at almost any part or fastener and tell whether or not it is correct for the car.
What does a used OEM dipstick for a 427 sell for these days? I seriously doubt that you could find a NOS one.
how does one tell a OEM original from a reproduction stick???
Supposedly...Repro sticks have a dimple in the handle, like the red tippped one in your pics, OEM ones have no dimple, like the one in Faster rats pic. Thats according to the 68-69 TIM&JG, cant speak to the later years. I bought a repro white tipped one from Doc Rebuild and it has the dimple.

Thank - you, sir. Now I know....this helps me out a lot.
The "088" dipstick, with the red button, is the correct dipstick for all 70-74 454's. The white button dipstick (GM part number 3925520) was used on all 427's built from March 67-through 69. There is a correct repro of the "520" dipstick available, with the white button.
If your replacing your dipstick, you'll probably need a new dipstick tube too. The 70-74 dipstick is quite a bit longer than the 65-69 ones, and used a longer dipstick tube. If you don't have the right tube, you won't get a correct reading.
The white tip dipstick was discontinued around 1980, so until the repros came out, the only dipstick available was the red button 088. If you went to your Chevrolet dealer to get a dipstick, you got the 70-74 dipstick. Because of this, a lot of earlier big blocks got the 70-74 dipstick.

Hello Glenn - hope all is well with you.
Good point in regards to the dipstick tube. I will be on the outlook now for one of those too.
