How can I tell the difference between plain, silver anniversary and pace car?
The regular production option (RPO) for the silver anniversary is B2Z while that RPO for the Pace Car is Z78. Indigo indicates how to differentiate Z78 from the B2Z and basic coupes (VIN sequence) but the method to differentiate B2Z from the basic coupe is the paint code on the trim tag.
I have posted photos of the trim tag for a B2Z and a Z78. B2Z paint code (first) is 13U 07M while that of the Pace Car is 19U 47M. The U is for upper while M is for middle. GM used U, M and L (lower) to code the paint schemes for different levels of the body.
If there are three sisters, (B2Z, PC and plain) one is the hot one, ones the "ok, after a few beer" one, and one is the one that was "dropped on her head when she was a puppy".
I have a '78 and it is my understanding that all 1978 Corvettes were "silver anniversary" models in that they were built 25 years after the first 1953. They all have the silver anniversary chrome badging. There was a silver anniversary paint scheme which was an extra $300 and had a darker lower and lighter silver upper. The Pace Car model was an upgrade with different paint and decals which of course stickered out more. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
