Looking at purchasing my first vetteand wanted to get your opinion on whats a fair price for the car... the add reads "1973 CONV. RESTORED W/ LT1 ENGINE [INJECTED] AND 4 SPEED AUTO. OVERDRIVE."
Having not seen many resto mods for sale I figured I'd ask the experts
add also says its in "excellent" condition... assuming this is true, what do you think?!?!
Looks like they did a pretty good job on the swap (lsx would have been a better swap) and the car looks clean. If the frame, cage, top are all good I would say 17k to 19k I would feel comfortable paying.
The ONLY thing I hate is when people use the word "restored" and then talk about motor swaps.

Would you like "upgraded" better?
While I think the swap looks done well it's not very clean or detailed out that I would expect with the asking price since this swap is super common now days, when looking at it seems the concern was just drop the engine in there...look at the firewall...
Well do you consider a car with a motor from a different car "restored" because I don't. I mean it would be great if there was a word for a car that has been upgraded to newer parts and fixed up.... Oh wait there is, restomod.

To be honest I do not get all that hung up over expressions, I poke fun at a few like "vert or bubba but fine line for me, remember I modify things so to me I believe the first thought I get if I see
"Restored 73 with LT1 and 4 speed auto" is the car is restored but not stock
If I read
"restored 73 numbers matching 454 4 speed " I think restored but perhaps stock.
Like I said I just never pondered it before...
But I get it that you desire "restored" to mean numbers matching factory stock?
I love to poke at my purist buddy who does drive on modern tires I said well, that IS a modification and you resto modded your car...

Hey Bats
upon taking body off my 70 and taking everything apart i found I have 4:11 gears in the rear end not the original 3:55 's .Do you think I should change them back ? I will be running a 454 LS 6 with My M-22?
Wes
that's a tough one...you've got a nice looking half-chrome bumper car, convert, looks great. it's a driver, and probably more reliable than most any C3. The LT-1 is a great motor, don't know why people dog on them, my '95 LT1 is 300hp stock and gets 24mpg. hard to argue with that.
but it won't sound like an old school C3, obviously not original, no idea how well the swap was done, computer issues, opti-spark, etc.
I would say it is worth less than the same car with #'s matching small block, or about the same as the same car with NOM but still old school small block carb...but just a guess really.
no rust, great paint, AC , leather?, convertible, is easily 20K.. can't tell from the pics, but paint condition and rust are what makes a car worth what it is. Small block replacement engine is at worst a couple grand hit.. not that much.
