Default Stereo System

So I was wondering how "modern" you all have made your sound system. Particularly your deck. I would like to put in one of those fancy pop-up touch screen ones, but I don't see it happening because the screen pops up at a 90 degree angle, and in the C3's I don't see that going over well since the deck is angled back.
Has anyone tried/accomplished this and not have it looking all messed up?
Also, I want to see any upgrades ya'll have made to the sound systems...
Aaaaaand.... GO!

Typically you can adjust the angle of those screens when they open, but then it would block your gauges.

I debated installing one so that I could put navigation in my car as I tend to drive a good bit and it would be convenient. At the end of the day I kept my single DIN Alpine.

I was curious about this too, I scored a new in the box single din with pop out touch screen while I figured the angle would adjust and knew it would block gauges I really dig the GPS it has and zip/flash ports, I carry 1000's of tunes with me,
I would love some to post a pix with one open see how bad it looks

I was thinking of just going with a basic single DIN because of the gauges being blocked as well, but I doubt a 7" screen would block to much..

Mine is about mid 90's "Modern" at the moment, Alpine 7939. Probably going to go back a few more years with the next head unit swap.

Another-User, How was the installation? I know it's the same as any other stereo, but how is the fit? Did you have to alter anything?
And I think we could possibly get away with the flip up screens, but it may take some adjusting of the screen to keep all the gauges in sight.

Plus, there are drop down head units as opposed to flip up, so that may be an option as well.

it wasnt too terrible, but there was work involved.

i drilled out those rear bulkheads to mount the wood to, which is what the amps screw into.

the 6x9s fit inside the original plastic lid pieces, but the rest had to be built from scratch.

the previous owner already opened up the 4x6 openings to fit 4x6s, so no work from my end. the fit is actually so tight that, except for that foam support piece, i dont have them bolted down at all. been that way for years now.

6.5s where a bit of a bitch. i lost the fresh air intakes entirely, and closed them up (the hardest part) so water/debris doesnt get to the speaker. plus new mounting holes had to be drilled, and the plenum lip ground down to allow the speakers to flush mount.

the drivers side speaker needed the hard plastic housing ground down about 1/4" in one spot to clear a frame brace.

i havnt finished the 6.5 install yet, but it looks like i should be able to conceal them entirely behind the original kick panel. i might need to tweak the kick panel a bit, but ill figure that out when i get there.

and the stereo was easy enough. notch out the stock bezel and install.

oh, almost forgot the sub. i lost 1/3 - 1/2 of my rear storage compartment to that. and it goes from the floor to like an inch below the decklid. plus i had to drill out the floor to mount it securely. most dont take that much to secure, but this is a big guy. the sub alone weighs like 30-40lbs, and then add in another 10-15lbs for the box... ya, i need that bolted down securely, and to spread the load over as large of area as possible so i dont rip it out of the floor in a turn.

the drop down might work in an automatic, but in a 4 speed, i think its going to be too close to the shifter. the last thing i would want to do is try and play around with a touch screen while trying to go over/around the shifter while driving.

I'm just getting started with my '77, but I'm thinking of removing all the gauges in the center stack by installing some combo gauges in the drivers dash.

That will free up the center dash for a double-din head unit.

Another-User, a 7" screen? I doubt it would get close to my shifter at all really. For it to be a 7" screen it would only be about 3-4" wide. Plus, if you can adjust it so it comes mostly straight out, it really wouldnt be close. I have about 9.5" at my shifters closest point.

maybe its better in the newer cars, but my old 69 has manual steering. so, huge wheel + shifter does take some work to get around.

76 doesn't have a massive wheel and the shifter doesnt take much space either. So I'm thinking I may be good if I go with the drop down instead of pop up.
