I live in upstate NY, and to call the roads rough is being generous. Our local highway department should be flat out ashamed. There is pot holes deep enough to raise goldfish in, and they have been there since winters end, two months ago.
I finally have the C3 on the road and it's been an obstacle course of sorts. Using the other lane when necessary. I have already scraped the exhaust three or four times when I cant avoid a huge hole or heave.
Can I put air shocks on this car to get a little more ride-height? If so, I will do it NOW! This is one thing I completely failed to consider when I purchased my Corvette. Our roads SUCK!

A pot hole led to my 69 getting a frame swap out...story in my build thread.
While purists will shutter at air shocks on a vette, I do a lot of old school kit car stuff, there was a 70's kit that was very low to the ground, the company put air shocks on the front and rear with the control under the dash, so the car could drive without busting the chin dragging etc,
I would think there are more modern ways to do that to a c3 today....in the case of the kit car, when the shocks were adjusted for normal driving it didnt really hurt it's sports car like ride.
Thanks 13bats - The car needs shocks anyways, so maybe the ones on it (probably shot, as the car sat a while) are not doing much in the way of keeping that car up a little bit. Any suggestions on a good replacement set?

I have no idea, that donor chassis I scored had vette brakes transverse stuff, all rebuilt except the shocks so I guess I will let VB tell me what to run.
I would believe any good gas shock for just a driver if you use yours like I do mine, and yeah , if your shocks are bad it will jar the fillings out of your teeth,
I can't tell what year your car is, 73 to 79. I replaced the rubber bushings on the reat spring mounting bolts, that raised the rear. The ride was better, but replacing the rear pring liners made it ride well. The rear struts needed new rubber and that helped with the handling.
The big one for me was Blistien HD shocks (not sport which are too harsh), new front suspension with rubber.
I should mention that I put new seat covers on with new foam.

I know exactly what you mean. We are originally from Rochester and the last few times up there I can't believe how bad the roads are up there compared to around here. I do know that I probably won't drive my Vette up there just for that reason.
I know exactly what you're talking about. I'm originally from Syracuse and I remember how poorly the roads were maintained there. Interstate 81 was usually pretty good, but even the thruway got where it was bad too. Gotta love the NY DOT. One guy working and five watching.
