Default Shifter **** removal
Need to change the shifter boot and I can't get the shifter **** to unscrew on my '77 w/ automatic tranny. Tried everything I know of including putting a little heat to it with a heat gun. No luck. Any ideas?

The button screws off then the ****. Try wrapping it with a rag and use slip joint pliers.

Make cushions to cover the jaws of channel locks out of radiator hose.

The chrome button comes off easily. It's the actual **** that is frozen. Tried channel locks with a rubber jar lid gripper, but that didn't work. I'll try jnb5101's radiator hose gripper idea next.
