I would like to have one that would stay on during a thunderstorm.

I bought a Coverking from Costco via their website. It's a single layer of mylar-type fabric (or Tyvek?) My problem is the sun, we don't get a lot of rain. However, when it has rained, the cover is dry before I even give it a thought. It billows with the breeze like a skirt, but the elastic is very snug. It was over $100, but not too much.

I tried a few of those 5-layer covers with the fuzzy inner layer -- each one disintegrated in the sun within a year. The sun is brutal on cars.

I appreciate Dub's warning about long-term storage. I think he's exactly right.

REMEMBER a steel car is not a fiberglass/SMC car. Moisture can not migrate THROUGH steel. BUT...depending on the YEAR of a steel car. If it is an OLD car...I have seen 55-57 Chevys actually begin to fall apart at the seams due to moisture getting in the lap joints and accelerating the rust..and ruining the car. NOW...A NEW steel car is built entirely different..and can hold up to this type of 'green house' effect a bit better....but if the car is still subjected to a harsh moisture environment....one day...'something' may pop up and by that time...it is TOO LATE!

Once again...car covers are FINE....just do not cover your car and forget about it. It does take EFFORT.

I have seen this here in florida over and over a person covers a car and doesn't mess with it after a few rains and hot sun cycles their paint shows it, and not just paint the interior smells weird,

A few months ago when we made this move I got stupid and bought a 87 fiero gt sweet car but I do not "need" it and I did then need covers I ordered two from ebay one for the corvette was a I believe the 9 layer nice like thin rain coat on outside and soft flannel on inside, barely fit the corvette, it's now on the fiero,

The fiero one was different super craptastic, very thin and didn't even fit the little car, they would of course take it back but it's now a dust cover for the trike in the carriage house,

So now the corvette is under two on sale import tool fright tarps, IF I had driver paint and all I wanted was to cover the t top area I would grab a silver tarp, cheap easy and since it's not being left on long at a time it's not going to hurt anything.

Now let me explain.....All I'm looking for out of a cover is to protect the car from rain if I'm at a car show or on a short overnight trip....I'm sure the T-Tops leak and I want to keep all the water out that I can...It will not be covered while in the garage and with the paint being at best a 20 footer I'm not looking to protect it from the sun.

Anybody else in the same situation and if so what do you use.....?

Brian
As you indicated, car show or overnight, not to be used for weeks or months. This is what I have for $20.00. Downside, thin; upside cheap and works in those emergency situations. Takes up very little room.

I was looking at the MaxTech cover....I can get it local for $79, looks like by a few post here it gets pretty good reviews. The longest it would ever be on is overnight....Otherwise it would be just if we were caught in the rain.

I'll post some pics and review after I get it....

Drove over to Fullthrottle Corvette today and picked up the Maxtech cover....I haven't put it on yet because I need to figure out what to use as a grommet for the antenna hole....The instructions say to just use a heated up nail to burn a hole thru the top but I would like some kind of reinforcement around it....Any suggestions on what to use....?

The cover is nice and thick and the bag seems plenty big enough to get the top back in after having it on the car.

Happy so far.....

About 6 mos ago I bought an ECONOTECH fitted cover for my 78 C3.Corvette Mods or perhaps another supplier.I've patronized them all for various things..
Less than 80.00 shipped.
Came with a storage bag..
Has grommet holes either side down near rockers in case the wind is strong.8" bungi cords are all that's needed..if one wishes to really batten it down..

Elastic front & rear and pockets for the sport mirrors..
I put it on in the garage to keep dust & pollen off the car and helps if people or dogs are in there to protect against incidental sratches etc.
I put it on the car when we travel and stay overnite..Keeps the salt air and bird droppings off the finish..Good protection against dewfall and rain..but cover needs to be shaken off and dried if it gets soaked. It dries fast tho...Common sense stuff..

My car is weatherproof even in wettest driving rain...

But like all things will wick moisture if left indefinitely in a wet or damp ambient.

The cover is well made and one person can put it on the car..It breathes..so it's not like a shrink wrapping..

AS a humorous note concerning dogs..
My son had a large German shepherd..Car was in the garage with both windows down..

(thankfully before I had redone the interior-w/leather seats and done all the body work and spendy paint..)

Dog saw the windows down and she promptly jumped in thru the passenger side open window onto the seat..She did no damage..not even a scratch..but I cringed..

Thot she was gonna go for a ride in a sports car I reckon....Jim
