I have a 1978. In the owner's manual (page 2-17) it shows a "headlight manual control ****" which is directly below the steering column. Mine does not push in, pull out, turn, or sing a song. I figure it's toasted. So I looked online and can't find a replacement part. Do any of you have a lead you can share with me? Thanks in advance.
Before I would purchase a new one, I would remove it and give it a good cleaning. I could be gummed up from not being used. It should pull down to make the headlight go up and push in to close them.
They are available and just about most of the vendors. I've found it how you enter the text in the search and filter it down to your specific year. I know I saw them when I was looking for the headlight switch, some of the vendor sites will show items which may be related to your search item. Good luck, you'll find one.
If you remove it just make sure you note which hose goes on top and the other the bottom & for that matter that there are two now on and not split (it should still move up and down):

The manual **** pulls down pretty hard. You can lube it with any air tool oil without hurting it and the two hoses can go on either way. The override ***** are the only places where the hoses can be switched.

Sorry, that is not true. The port closest on the override is designed to block vacuum when the **** is pulled out, and the port farthest away is designed to vent vacuum to atmosphere. If the control vacuum hose leading to the headlight relays gets blocked at the override, the vacuum would not be vented to atmosphere, and the internal piston inside the relays would not switch vacuum to the other actuating port.
When I dropped the steering column to change the rag joint I disconnected the hoses and when I put them together incorrectly I found out it does matter
Guys,
THANK YOU all for weighing in and giving me this great information.! I can now find it if I decide to order it. However, I think I'll try to clean it first. Either way I have a solution to the problem. Thanks again.
