Default Door panel carpet

On my 77 I have the deluxe door panels with the carpet at the bottom also. Have any of you guys removed the carpet from your panels and if so what is behind there? I have ordered new carpet to replace the stuff in the car now, it looks like 80/20 loop not cut pile. So until I buy replacement door panels im trying to decide the best way to handle the door carpet. Thanks.

Just the door panel behind. Mine on my 76 were glued to the panel in addition to the chrome trim and staples on the bottom back side holding it on.

You might want to check 77 specifics, but I believe I read somewhere (probably Dobbins) that the deluxe interior for 77 included loop carpet, not plush.

I will check into that , thanks for the heads up but at this point of the cars life it's getting plush because my favorite puppy dog purchased me a new rear compartment door unit this past Christmas and it is plush, of course the dog did use my credit card so not sure how well that worked out for me.

Only cars with deluxe interior came with carpet on the door panels. All deluxe interior cars were cut pile carpet. Aftermarket companies used to offer deluxe door panels with loop carpet (Johns corvette care). And ACC used to make a carpet boot in 80/20, I'm not sure if they still do or not.

Originally, the only thing that held the carpet to the door panel was the upper molding at the top and the lower was held in place by staples placed through the vinyl boot into the back of the door panel.

And lastly. All 1977 and newer cars used cut pile only. After 1976 loop carpet was discontinued as a production part.
