We are looking to replace the fiber optics in my 69. I have a hard time paying $150-200 for a harness but cannot find anything that tells me the size of fiber optic cables that were used so I can just order the cable on my own (which is considerably cheaper of course).
Can anyone tell me what size cables were used or any suggestions on what size I should buy??
Modern fiber optic cables are very different from what was used in your old Corvette. Current ones have smaller strands and many more strands per cable. If you go from end to end with new cable, you will be OK, but splicing will have some loss at the junction.
Check around, occasionally someone is getting rid of an old harness and you can get the fiber optic cable out of it. Unless cut or broken, they are fine, unlike the 40 or 50 year old copper wires.
