Went to Texas to look at 2 Vettes but ended up only looking at 1 and bought it.
It is a matching numbers car 327/300 with aftermarket intake, cam, headers and paint. The paint is about 15 year old but still in good shape. Not show winning good but still shiny with only very few imperfections. Interior is very good with just a few little imperfections. Engine compartment is very clean. Radiator is a aluminum exact size replacement (probably Dewitt).
Frame is completely rust free. Car was stored indoors all it's life and rarely saw rain. Car has 58k original miles and drives like it. Drove the car over 1100 miles back to Florida with no issues. Runs cool, transmission shifts perfect and engine also runs perfect. Followed the speed limits within 10 mph as I was driving it home with the sellers license plates and did not want to get pulled over. Fuel economy was the best I have ever had on a chrome bumper Vette.. Averaged 16 - 17 mpg. Car does have a highway gear (probably 3.08). 2700 rpm with 255/60R15 tires at 70 mph. Car used about 1/4 of a quart of oil in 1100 miles..so, probably 1 quart in 4500 miles.. That's not bad. All gauges except for gas gauge and clock are working.
Here are some pics..
Last gas stop on the way home..
Interior
The center console is a 1969 console (textured). Top part is not broken off as on most cars but it is sagging down as the shifter console is sagging.. i will add some support to the shifter console to lift it up so that the top of the center console will be flush..

Nice car. Almost the opposite color combination of your old race car.
Thanks everyone!
It's close but the contrasting color actually is closet to purple on this car while it was blue on the race car.
I'm planning on leaving the car mostly unchanged but will very likely get stainless hooker sidepipes with maxflow glass pack mufflers and probably a L88 style hood and I will see how much it would be to match the paint scheme..

Yes, welcome back Oliver! Looks great from here, and one you can enjoy without risking an ulcer every time you take it out for a spin.
Starts right up every time.. I also love that Hurst shifter with the t-handle.. Firm, precise shifts.. The only thing that needs attention technically is the rear spring. It is flattened out, not unusual for a 47 year old spring.. i will probably put a composite spring.. shocks seem new (at least they look new). I might go with the 360# springs as I like a firmer ride...
Beautiful car. An early C3 is probably the only car you can do pretty well driving without a gas gauge. If you want to know how much fuel you have, just open the large gas cap and look in. Heck you can even stick your hand in and see how much of your hand is wetted by gasoline!
Buy a replacement fuel sending unit and the tool needed to remove, install it.

I actually have changed those sending units before and still have one.. I don't think that it's the sending unit.. I believe that it's the gauge.. Even if the car is turned off, the gas gauge points completely to the right. When I will get a chance, I will measure the ohm's on the sending unit to see if that is the problem.. I believe that correct values are between 0 and 90 ohms.
EDIT: Just checked... the sending unit shows infinite ohms BUT when I short out the sending wire with ground to make it zero ohms, the gauge does NOT move at all. So, it appears that both, the gauge and sending unit seem to have a problem. Luckily, the gas gauges are available at summit for $57 and I do have a extra sending unit. It's actually in the tank I pulled out of my '68 drag car when I installed the fuel cell. Might actually install that gas tank in this Vette as the gas tank was bubba'd (and that's the only thing bubba'd on that car). Someone installed a drain valve at the original sending unit location and moved the sending unit to a different part of the tank.. Weird.. Not sure why someone did that..

Thanks.. I really love the color combination with the stripe.. If I would have bought a Vette in need of paint, I might have painted it in exactly that paint scheme with the difference that I would have used dark blue metallic for the stripe and not the purple color that the stripe on my car has.. Not a big difference either way.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
