Deluxe interior question
1976 with Saddle (two tone) interior.
Did all deluxe interiors come with a wood insert on the center console? My car has wood trim on the doors, no carpet strip at the bottom of the door and a standard black center console. Would like to install the deluxe interior when I redo it. Parts suppliers sell different kinds of console inserts (walnut, teak, etc..)
Need some info on what was included with the factory deluxe interior package for a 1976, 4spd, NO pw car.

Originally, Yes. Starting in 1970 through 1976 the shift console would have had a fake wood insert (for 1976) either part number 362913 (with ac) or 362914 (without ac). This was a metal insert with a fake wood on top and 1976 was the only year to use this.
Earlier cars used a different variation of a real wood laminate either teak or walnut depending on the year. All years had a different variation based on with or without a/c.
Currently no one makes the correct insert for your shifter plate but the teak one sure looks good when installed. I doubt there are many that would know the difference unless you were judging it NCRS.

I believe they all were supposed to have the wood insert. However my good friend bought his '76 new with deluxe interior. He thought it was unique, because it was delivered with the standard black console plate. So perhaps GM had a shortage or maybe they made some mistakes at the factory.
