New to the site and have gotten so many different responses from local Corvette owners and collectors. I found a local 1977 Vette, automatic, not an L82, and they want $8500 for it. It has 143K miles on it! Sounds and runs well, but has some cosmetic issues (paint, dash, t-tops, etc). I have heard the term "it's a project car" used, but I feel $8500 is a bit high for a project car...I would say that it is in fair/decent condition. Any thoughts? It is listed on various websites...seen it in person, but because it is not my property, I don't know if I can link the websites posting it. Any initial thoughts on what a fair condition '77 vette with 143K miles is worth? Thank you in advance for your help!
That bad, huh? I see potential, but don't want heartache...trying to be realistic. What do you think would be a fair price for a car like this? Again, trying to get a gauge...if not this car, maybe another one.
$ 8500 is too much for a plain vanilla, auto L48 77 vette. You say it needs paint, dash and t-tops. That tells me the interior is probably shot too. Aside from that, the mechanical part of the car is suspect as well especially with 143k miles. Did you look at the frame? Lots of corvettes suffer from rust issues. The cost of paint alone wouldn't justify paying that kind of money. I would walk away from this one and keep looking. Lots better deals to be had than this one. Check the C3s for sale here on the forum. Good luck.
I think that is too much also. As is so often said here, look for one that is mostly done but be prepared to spend a little more on it, it will be a good investment if a lot of the mechanicals have been gone through by previous owner. The 1977's will not fetch as much, but if you want a good driver I think you could hold out and find a good deal.
