Default C3 guys, help me out please?

Hey guys, I own 2008 Z51 coupe.

Thinking about trading for this:

http://www.uniquemankato.com/web/use...sota/21521642/

I have not seen the car yet, just texting with dealer. He claims it is an original, numbers matching car. It is an automatic trans, not a manual. Ad is incorrect.

He looked up my car/VIN and is asking for my car + $2K his way.

What is this car worth?
What should I look for when I go check it out?

Any and all advice and opinions greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Looks like a nice car from the outside, however, there aren't any engine bay pictures or interior or chassis pictures, so it's hard to tell if it has any serious issues that have to be dealt with. Read the sticky at the top of the C3 General section about the rules for buying a C3 corvette. And I would never buy any car sight unseen, either go and check it out, or hire someone to check it out for you. You'll wind up saving money in the end

Well, it's pretty, and clean, as the pics show. But the "34 thousand dollar questions" are the mechanical questions which cannot be determined from pictures.

Thanks! yes, click the link again, there are numerous photos.

I would NEVER buy without seeing and driving it first. it is only about 1.5 hours away, thinking of driving down this week to check it out.

I just have no idea on the value of these cars, or what exactly to look for. I am not real familiar with C3s.

The car has sport mirrors, which I don't believe were and option in 72.

No AC ($4000)
No 4-speed ($5000)
No power brakes ($750)
No power steering (I assume from the other options)($750)

Are all deducts to many. I think the asking price as absolutely top dollar. You can buy a really nice chrome bumper C3 for $34k, I have no clue what you value your car at so your car plus $2k means nothing to me. The values placed on the options are from the Corvette DNA guide. Your mileage may vary.

It's a nice looking car. May be priced on the high side for a non vert and automatic.

I'd take a look for sure.

It's interesting that they list is as a manual transmission but its an auto.

Also I think it does have power steering. I think it has the ps alternator bracket and the alternator is very high in the engine bay.

There are more rubber bushings on the passenger side of the rear leaf spring than on the driver side.

Bait and switch

it could very well have PS, that was a total guess on my part based on the few creature comforts I could see.

That chin air dam is some kind of add-on like the mirrors.

$34k seems like a lot for that car.

The belt is wrong for PS. On a PS car the crank drives the PS and the PS drives the ALT.

The shot I see goes straight to the water pump. Then again it could all be setup wrong.

Are you sure about that? My 1970 has 3 belts.

AC-water pump-crank
alt-water pump crank
PS-crank

1972 could be different and AC cars could be different.

Unless the battery was disconnected when the pics were taken the clock does not work, hands never moved from one pic to the next.

Thanks everyone. I dont think I am going to waste my time driving 2 hours to see it. Price seems high based on my little bit of searching I did today.

Also, I really would prefer a 4spd over an auto.

I think a good call. Even though you may not need A/C... resell will suffer to anyone in the south east or southwest. JMHO.

It does have incorrect mirrors and isn't it suppose to have a rear sway bar??? Not sure.

Keep you eyes open...the right car will come around.

Yep, not in any hurry. I was planning on selling my car next spring and then searching for a nice early C3 with a BB.

Thanks!

Nope. I think I could sell mine here in MN in the spring for $30K+

That is when prices here are the best.
