Last weekend My 78 was running fine , we had it out all weekend.. Monday it wouldn't start.. It turned over but would not start,, it was getting fuel but no spark.. First thing I thought of was the control module in the distributor,,so I replaced it and then it fired right up. I went for a short ride and noticed right away that it wasn't accerating good, and would backfire through the carb if I gave it to much gas,so I thought maybe the coil was bad from the module going bad,, changed that and the capacitor/condensor,cap and rotor too.. Still doesn,t run right. It starts good but boggs under load... Does anyone have any advise on this ?? It has a quadrajet carb on it,I'm wondering if something went wrong with it.. Sorry for the long post..

Sounds like something got into accelerator pump in carb and you are getting a lean backfire .
with engine off look down carb and pump throttle you should see q fair amount of gas squirt out in both sides of carb.

It looks like it is getting gas on both sies of the carb.. When I drive it ,, it feels like it isn't getting enough when I accelerate.. Seems like the more gas i give it the more it feels that way..

Does your dist. have a vacuum advance on the side of it ?
You don't say what carburetor you have. If it's the original type Q'jet, check the inlet fuel filter. Best to be safe and replace it anyway.
Sorry I didn't read carefully. OK, you have Q'jet. Yes, replace inlet filter.

Wont be able to do that today but will do that, Thanks
I put a new fuel filter in today, and it didn't help.. It was worth a try.. Could vac. advance cause it to bog down ??
It could I mentioned that a few reply's back .You can remove dist cap and (if you don't have a vacuum Pump) suck on the hose going to vac. advance and dist plate should move around counter clockwise

Thanks, I'll try that. I did pull the vac advance hose off with the motor running and the rpms dropped, Woukd that mean the vac advance is working ?
Ok - It was running fine then had no spark, so a new module fixed it. Now you have bogging.
I would not start digging into other things until I checked things associated with the last change – timing, coil, module, & firing order (if you removed any wires). The chance of two things breaking at the same time is kind of slim. I have also had new modules that were bad, and ran crappy, right out of the box –even Delco & Delphi brand, not just discount. The carb was running fine before, stick with ignition things first until you rule them out.

I'm on the second module since this happened, new coil ,condensor, rotor and cap. Timing was fine before , plug wires went back on just like they came off ,,
Does anyone know what thw black wire that I am pointing to is for, I noticed that it was backed almost all the way out of the alternator and the connector was loose and probably not making a good connection.. I tightened it up and went for a ride and it runs perfect...
