Top pic showa emty hole. can see a bolt underneath, not connectef to anything, bottom pic is from the otherside.. Does anyone know what this is ,, somethging to do with the front suspention ??
The washer/nut/and stud is missing. Going to have to jack it up and see why its not bolted up. Is it broken off or the threads stripped or did it just loosen up to the point where the nut and washer fell off allowing the shock to compress and the shaft come out of the hole.

To answer question RE: "will it hurt to drive it this way." Yes it could, without a shock your car will bounce and tire lose contact with road surface, losing control of your car.. so don't drive it. (ever see a car "bouncing down the road"). BTW I would replace shocks in pairs.. your Auto Parts store should have them in stock.

Thanks, I am going to replace both front shocks , was planning on going to a local car show this weekend but I guess I will have to wait,, Thanks again for a real answer...
I would replace both back shocks, also. But they are harder to change. If the front one's are bad, I imagine the two "invisible", easy to forget about rear shocks are really shot. Lou.
The "old school" way to test those rear shocks is to push up and down on the rear of the car until you get it bouncing pretty good. Then stop bouncing it and if it keeps going up and down a bit the shocks need replacing. After the last time you push down on it, the car should go to its normal position and stop.
