Didn't drive it yet. It's still a work in progress project. Although ! did put it in drive and reverse just to make sure the tranny engaged, but not road ready. I really just wanted to fire up the engine for warranty purposes since i purchased it in September of 2014..

Thank you. I've never used powdercoat till now and i can definitely tell there is a BIG difference from paint. I really liked the original natural finish on the serpentine brackets but i could already foresee natural stains from normal touch from greasy hands so I gave powdercoat atry and it wipes up clean I must say... Hope it holds up for a long time!!

Sounds nice! You should be pretty happy with 400 hp. In a street car it is about right. My tires won't hold the power in the first 2 gears but wind it up in 3rd, and boy does it pull.
As for powder coat, extremely durable. Even brake fluid doesn't affect the finish.

Might want to check with whom ever you bought the engine from. A guy I know sells crate engines for a local Chevy dealer and he told me they have been instructed by GM to stop sales of the ZZ5. They were told to return all engines in stock and wait for instructions. He thinks the problem is with the stated HP rating not matching up with reality. They might be offering refunds to current owners.

Did you buy through a dealer or a third party? The guy I know is with a dealer. I have a ZZ4 in mine. It's been a great engine.

The ZZ4 based crate engines are all very dependable. The ZZ5 seems to be a fast burn 385 with modern beehive valve springs, and that's about it as far as the differences go. So that's at least an upgrade from the crappy L98 heads of the ZZ4. GM had a warehouse full of em from the new Vettes back in the day, so the ZZ4 was just another way to use em up. The only thing good about those heads is that they are aluminum, since they don't really flow any better than the steel heads that preceded them. I got over 65,000 hard miles out of my ZZ4, then dropped a valve from too much RPM, too often. I rebuilt it keeping the stock bottom end, and added a nice AFR head based top end to yield around 500hp... And have been spinning it as high as 7,000 rpm for the last 4 years Also, a buddy of mine has been running nitrous thru his FB385 for over 10 years in his 68 to keep up with me (150hp shot these days).
So enjoy!!
