Default Electric fire on 1979 Corvette

Hi Everyone,

I m new to this forum, I have a 1979 Corvette, fixed brakes, rotors calipers and all the fun stuff.
I drove it and back home, some smoke was coming from under the hood.
One wire got hot and caused a little fire.

I m working on the harness now but I can t find where the second wire on this connector is going ...

Seems it s the ignition harness

Can someone please send me a picture of his wiring so I can find it ?
I m not a car pro, I m just working on this car to learn a little more.

Thank you very much.

Nicolas

I know where the black one goes, I m talking about the one connected with it ...

Has the harness been modified at all?
Wondering if someone did away with the 2 fused links at the starter.
Are there 2 plastic cylinder like things about 6" from the end of 2 of the wires at the starter? The last 6" or so of wire beyond the plastic things are "fused links", wires designed to melt if necessary.
Why not replace that harness. Here's an ebay link to one, do an ebay search for others or contact one of the Corvette vendors......

Just noticed that's the female connector in the main harness going TO the starter harness.
See if I can find it in the 79 shop manual.

Went out and looked at my 79.
BOTH are black, which I guess makes sense, grounds.
One goes into the harness along the firewall, other goes like 6" away to the hood alarm switch.
Which one melted? I'm guessing the one disappearing into the harness?
