i think i just found a pretty nice one. looks like untouched orig right down to the smog pump with fan belt still attached. orig paint and int and doesn't need either. what i can see of frame and cage looks really good. no air though. can the firewall be easily altered to put the OEM A/C unit in it? this is my first vette. is the firewall glass or metal?
...can the firewall be easily altered to put the OEM A/C unit in it?...
Define "easily". For factory AC, the firewall heater core hole was enlarged to accomodate the larger AC unit. The assembly instruction manual (AIM) shows the dimensions of the cut. That done, the remaining factory AC installation is likely to be more involved than you may think. There are serveral pages in the AIM showing the work and parts necessary for factory air.
so, it is the same firewall with different larger hole? and cutting the hole is the easiest part? i got some homework to do before i commit to this job. would installing the correct AC unit devalue this car? of is a 75 with no options but PS/PB pretty much the bottom of the value heap anyway?

IMO, I would definitely start thinking Vintage Air. Even a original system for 75's wouldn't be original on yours just like A vintage system.

Correct.

That would depend on your ability with a sabre saw.

I agree. Purchase the 75 assembly instruction manual (AIM) and look through the pages involving the C60 factory AC option. In addition to the firewall modification, several changes, underhood and interior, are required.

I suggest find a car with working factory ac, and then find a car with working vintage air. You will see very fast that the old school ac system is miles behind the new stuff. Buy vintage air, install, charge, and forget about it. I guarantee you will have continuing issues with the old style stuff
