When I bought my 1980 Corvette last summer, upon inspection of the interior I noticed a whole piece of conformed tinted plastic that fits inside the rear window. I called the seller and she said the former owner installed it in the car to prevent the interior from fainting. Cool! Does someone still make such an item?

Wow.. I was thinking of these the other day. In the early 80's someone (I don't remember who), started making these. They were plastic tinted and cut to the exact shape of the rear window. Installation was a snap because nothing was needed to be modified.
I remember them because the vendor that made them set up in the building next to ours at Bloomington. I'm guessing but I'd have to say it was probably 1980 or so when I first saw them. I did twenty five years at that show so the years flow together.
Does anyone make them... Nope! No one makes them currently so you'd best hang on to the one you have.
They were neat.... and considering I had a 79 it at the time it made them more appealing to me.
It was just a thin piece of plastic that was tinted.. and you would bow it when setting it in place.... The rear trim kind of held it in place (as did the tension of being bowed). It was a great idea but in "the day"... Just limited to five years of cars.
Cars like mine that had rear defrost.. it posed no danger to the defrost grid either.
No sense in taking a photo. It would be hard to see the shield. Mine is in excellent condition and it really does cut down the sunlight in the rear compartment. I was thinking of taking it out and selling it but being so rare I'm going to keep it in the car.
I remember the part... you missed the point of my post.
I'll go back to the corner of my round room..
It's been a long day for me... lol... sometimes you gotta kick me in the head.
The guy that made them set up next to Kermit Park at the old Bloomington. You remember Kermit, he went by RNeck reproductions... and made all the reproduction battery trays. He also was the guy that owned the Route 66 car that he drove to the show...

I ordered one from Mid America and picked it up at Bloomington gold. It is ok. Mine required some sanding to fit which it says it normal. It is not to interfere with the defrost.
Really no sense in taking a photo. It forms so well it's part of the window. Looking through the rear view mirror it's like looking out on tinted glass. Darker than normal.
I had one, yuck...mine was the Gila pop in as Mike called it, a cat just gave it to me as he hated it...it was too thick which made getting it in tricky but forget getting it out with any ease, and even with the way the bowing held it in mine would make a noise here and there,
