Default License plate frames

Been thinking I need a frame around my new plates.

Please post pictures of your license plate frames.

I'm looking for ideas, thanks.

Didn't bumper vettes come with a chrome plated frame? Just go with stock.

I don't know / didn't know that. Thanks. While I'm not completely sold on just a plain Jane chrome plate I was looking for ideas - nothing like Hello Kitty - but curious what other people have.

I have a 74 - so there isn't a lot of chrome on the car to start with (compared to earlier models) and it's a dark green metallic paint.

Yes. All the early cars came with a stainless steel license plate frame. Two for states requiring a front plate.

I have a "period correct" chrome dealer ship frame from Paradise Chevrolet that matches the correct black California license plate, but that's my style.

I have a repro frame of the dealer that originally sold my 63, and a stock looking chrome one for the 69. These are good ideas if you are going for the very original look.

What are you wanting... stock or custom?

Either - just looking for ideas, plate only is too plain.

the one on my '55 Chevy says "'Ol "55, ridin' with lady luck"

the one on my '66 VW says "This ain't no Kommon Ghia"

This is similar to what is on my 1970. It doesn't help as everyone still asks "what year is it?"

Frames would not fit in the rear of mine, used clear bubble type plastic.

It's cheap, it's plastic, but I like it.

I am using similar.

As Mr. Vettebuyer6369 points out, it may be illegal, but my car is a rolling test-bed of stuff that is probably illegal. The Hooker Sidepipes certainly qualify. The non-functional speedometer may be close to the line. The inoperable wipers probably skirt the law. And the headlights that must be operated manually are in the grey area.

I just call my car "a work in progress".

The plastic license plate covers, though, are less about aesthetics and more about protecting my YOM plates.

I found a set of NEVER BEEN INSTALLED early 1970 Virginia license plates through a web-based junk dealer in West Virginia. I was pleased to trade $60 for them.

The "early" distinction matches my January 30th car. Seems Virginia started running out of plate numbers later in the year and added an "A" in front of all the numbers so they could recycle the sequence. Mine are "Non-A" plates which I cherish.

They are fastened to the car with a tamper-resistant allen-type screw...think of the type of fastener that hold together the urinal partitions in the Wal-Mart. You just need a specific tool to get them off without tearing away the entire license plate frame.

Got one like this for my 81 from one of the vendors. The only holes to screw to the car are on the bottom. I went ahead and put license plate screws in the top to fill the holes, then put rubber caps over the screws so it wouldn't scratch/destroy the rubber.

Back when I had the blower motor in mine, I had a frame that said:

A LITTLE HUMILITY

IS GOOD FOR A PORSCHE
