Default '77 worth it?

Hey y'all, in my search for my first C3 I came across this, and I could probably snag it for about $5000. It's close enough to pick up if I'm buying it but not close enough to just drive there without being 100% on it. Wanted to know what you all thought about it
Has a new engine (351 hp) but the original is included too, has had a lot done to it
110000 miles

If the work was done well I think it would be worth it. Looks like the interior is ok the way it is and that saves big. New engine would cost 3K or more. Might be a good solid car to start with.

Check for rust as you would any C3.

When you mentioned $5000, I expected it to be much more rough. I'm not a fan of the satin black, but if you are good with it, then it looks decent.

However, like minitech said, you have to check for rust. Do a search here for "rust" and "birdcage" and you will see what to check.

If the birdcage is rusted out, it is far too much for a beginner and for something not extremely rare.

Default Underside

Get some under side pictures and ask for some of behind the kick panel. It will tell you alot. But just from the looks of It I would pay 5000 all day long. I have found most people think everything is worth nothing until they come time to sell.

Very nice looking candy shell. the interior looks good also.As others have said, if the underneath is as nice and not rusted out in the birdcage or behind the kick panels, its worth the 5 grand.

Are you serious enough to make the drive to look the car over?

Yeah, you gotta look at it to see what it is. It sounds like a good deal but if it is all that great, why is it still for sale and how long has it been for sale?

Yeah now that you point that out they don't look right, I asked him about them. Thank you

If he replies with the right information and that everything else is working fine then yeah I'd take the trip, but that's to be determined

First obvious places to check for rust.

left rear frame corner

right rear frame corner

Check behind kick panels if you are allowed to remove them at the base of the front door opening under the dash.

You can check behind the seats into the rear door pillar. You might be able to see around the cover or if allowed to remove it.
