In the past 6 months I have been thinking about putting in a transmission with overdrive in my Vette. I had talked to my mechanic and he had one and told me the cost and I told him I would think about it. Talked with another guy who had done it and he highly recommended it. So here is the latest. Last Saturday the air conditioner went out. I immediately called my friend the mechanic, (he owns 5 vettes), took it to him to check it and he told me to bring it Tuesday afternoon to repair, I hopped in the Vette Tuesday and took off towards his shop and the transmission began to slip. It would not get out of first until about 45 mph and slipped again and went to third. So, now it was time to make the decision. I wanted the new overdrive transmission but I was wanting to wait a little longer. Bad luck..........it went out with the air conditioner. Good luck, I will do it now.
I dont so much look at it as "good luck" or "bad luck": these cars are money pits always wanting for something. The kind of heat we've been having these past few months is murder even on newer AC systems, and ours are already usually pretty worn out. No surprise it gave out. Good time to swap out for Vintage Air, unless your system can be repaired for less.
The transmission issue... well, crap happens. I usually find ways to talk myself out of spending money so when something breaks I actually look at it as an opportunity, because now that I must spend money I may as well spend it getting what I want. You were going to do an OD transmission anyway, so now's your chance.
