Default 68 Headlight covers

I'm looking for a replacement 68 right side headlight cover, or possibly a different set of them. My right side cover has decent size piece missing from the edge and I don't want to use a repaired one.

I've heard that the 68's had three different size headlight covers and wanted to know if anyone can tell me if mine are the small size, medium size, or large size based on the below pictures of the dimensions?

As you can see my covers are approx 15" across and I'd like to know if Chevy made a cover that was a bit larger? The headlight cover openings in my new hood surround are a bit larger than my current headlight covers. Can any confirm the size of the 69 or later headlight covers compared to mine in the above pictures?

Thanks much.

What is your consecutive unit number? If memory serves, headlight door size could be a concern only on the very early 68s.

My VIN translates to a 1st week of Nov 1967 build date.

My new hood surround is reproduction, and the openings are slightly larger than my current 1968 headlight covers (shown above) and I'd like to know if there are other 1968 headlight covers that are larger than what I currently have, or if 1969 headlight covers were larger.

Thanks much.

Define "slightly larger." If the surround openings allow about 1/8" (maybe 3/16") clearance all around, you're good.

If I remember correctly, approx 1/2" all the way around.

The early 68 did have smaller doors. Nov would be early. A late 68 and up doors will fit but the gap is less than 1/16 inch.

If your recollection is good, you're looking at 1/4 gaps all around between headlight doors and the surround openings. Can you live with 1/4" gaps?

I compared my two headlight covers last night.

My broken cover (the cover I did not use when I compared the headlight cover with the opening in my new hood surround) is slightly larger than my good headlight cover in the above pics.

I believe that the cover in my pics above may be a 68 headlight cover (smaller) and my broken cover may be a 69 (slightly larger).

So now it looks like I will be looking for two 69 headlight covers. This should reduce the gap between the cover and the hood surround opening to less than a 1/4".

Thanks guys.

Ted

Ted, I feel your pain.

I have one original 68 lid in great shape and the other beyond repair. After being unable to locate a replacement, I purchased another chrome bumper lid and cut it down to match the original.
