Default 1969 Manta Ray

I wonder where that car is?? As I understand it, it's a modification of the Mako Shark II.. Where is that car? Is it at the NCM? I never saw it there when I was at the NCM years ago.. Does anyone know where that car is and if it can be seen by the public?

GM owns it. If it's not at GM headquarters in Detroit, it's likely to be stored out at Warren.

The question is on if it is accessible to the public?

I really would like to see it in person one day and I wonder if it's possible..

The 69 Manta Ray is on display at the GM Heritage Center. GM will bring it out periodically for large national shows (like Amelia Island or Monterey), and I think it's been displayed at the NCM from time to time.

The Heritage Center is not open to the general public, though they do open it for clubs and private events. The NCRS and the VSCCA both toured it, when they held their national conventions in the Detroit area a couple years ago.

Scroll down the page in the link below, for a look at the Manta Ray in the Heritage Center.

What is sad to me is they modified or rebuilt the only driver mako shark 2 to build the manta ray so the orginal mako is gone forever, I heard soomewhere they made a copy or two but they are not what the orginal one was.

On a side note on my mako front clip I plan to stick headlights in the grill just to get her going quicker but plan on the lamps in the leading nose edge like the manta did theirs.

I was moaning a lot about the headlights in the grill,
Mike really wasnt savvy on the mako kits, real one or manta but when he saw this picture loved it,

I have no idea what the 6 headlights are...aircraft perhaps?

But now we could run the quad 4x6 which are about the same height or the 95 camaro style the small 2x4 which would mean the cut in the nose wouldnt have to be as far back,
Then mike suggested rather than the clear cover use the cut piece to make a door that drops down to allow the lamps to shine over it...it would work out well.

My big thing is timing, car is so close to running driving, I wanna drive my car damnnit...I can tinker with something like this after the car drives again...

You can always do the lights a certain way now and change them later.
I do like the drop down idea!

The very first Mako Shark was a non running show car with wild side pipes. The second, real running Mako cost something like a million dollars to make in 1965. When the look alike 1968 Corvette appeared, they changed the Mako into the Manta Ray to make it more futuristic looking. Lou.
