Default small block 350 valve covers

Hey there everybody. I plan on painting my valve covers Chevy orange this weekend, along with new valve cover gaskets. I was just wondering if there are any torque specs on the valve covers. Because what I'm thinking is you want to "crush" your gaskets juuuust the right amount. Thanks for you input #weekendwarrior

I'm not aware of a sequence, but all you do is snug them down.

If we are talking about stamp steel 4 bolt perimiter I have my own thought. I like to snug down the lower aft then lower fwd then the uppers. On cast just go around equally. I also like the FelPro gaskets with the insert that's prevents over squeeze of the gasket

Fel pro #1628 gaskets are worth every penny. They stopped all my leaks and they are reusable.

Another thought. If you have sheet metal covers make sure they are not warped in any way. Set them on the heads after clean and without the gasket to make sure they set flat.

Anyone ever figured out why GM used a rounded edge to seat the gasket on the stock head metal surface? Logic would say it should be machined flat.
