I bought my 74 L48 last year at the Mecum auction in Austin tx and have had my fun with it and it is time to move on to something different. My delima is do I List it as no-reserve or put a 10K reserve on it, I am not trying to make money and I only paid 12K all in last year. I am just not sure what the C3 market is now. Its a very nice drive with ac, ps,pb,pw,tilt wheel, and auto, it runs and drives great.
Always a tough question to ask yourself.....
The Austin auction is usually a good one....I say put the 10k on it.
If you were down here in San Antonio I would say no way....but you may know that.
Helotes is not far.
It is more about the territory here than the C3 market as a whole.
List it here first, then Ebay. The cost here is zero, and on ebay it's about $100. After you pay the seller's premium, and the buyer pays his, the true cost differential is about $900.
Too many flakes on flea-bay and craigs list, I am not trying to make money, just move on to another toy. Its not a bad deal with Mecum the registraiton fee included a bidders pass and admission for two to the VIP area. I also give you exposure to many more possible qualified buyers, sorry but I would not list my old bicycle on this site, people are looking for something for nothing, not the way I do business.

With nice pics too! List it for 12K, Sounds like a GREAT car
I sold my 66 vert on this site without hardly trying, cash deal, no problems!

Put the 10k reserve on it... its very easy to pull the reserve if the bidding gets close enough. You just need to know if its a real bid or not, but they will tell you.
And regarding sales here, its pretty hit or miss, but I can tell you for sure that you would be surprised how many cars sell in C1/2 and C3 and for real money. It takes no effort to tell bottom feeders to go away, and for an ad that gets national exposure to Corvette specific people with unlimited text and pictures for free, its tough to beat the value.

Good luck with the sale.
I agree...I sold my 69' 427/400 here for very REAL money.....
I had to wait a month or so....but I had three real trades with cash...and two serious buyers.....
I was very pleased to say the least.....
perhaps you are right about this site but is is much easier to drive the car up on the block and five minutes later it is a done deal, I just dont want the problems that go along with a private sale, to each his own I guess. We are not talking about a lot of money here its not a 1970 454
Good luck to those who list their cars here, its just not for me.
I've bought and sold over $250k on eBay and Craigslist every year for the past 10 years. I've never had an issue, you just have to use a little commonsense. Eliminating eBay from your pool of buyers/sellers is really limiting yourself. I bought my current Corvette from eBay from a seller 650 miles away, I searched for two years to find the exact car I was looking for and would probably still be looking if not for eBay.
Or maybe commonsense isn't as common as you would think it is. YMMV
There is alway one person that has done it all and has it all, I am overjoyed "eye roll here" you have done well. I do not wish to use flea-bay or craigs list.
There is a Mecum auction in Dallas in mid September. You might consider listing your car on this forum for 3 weeks, lowering your price $500 a week down to the amount you think you will net at an auction. No cost at all, I bought my C3 from a very nice forum member in Dallas and had a very smooth inspection and transaction. 3 weeks is lots of exposure on the forum, if it doesn't sell in that time frame your buyer isn't looking here.
I just sold a car on Autotrader and got lots of interest - you might spend $75 to $100 to broaden your car's market exposure and try Autotrader classic, again, start at a realistic price and firm up as you lower it down to your bottom line. I did list it on craigslist as well, got 8-10 responses but every one wanted to buy the car at $10-$15k below market, a complete waste of time. I also got a bunch of emails offering to sell it on consignment. Others may have had better luck.
I wouldn't do a "no reserve" auction - the downside risk of selling your car at a very low price is much greater than the difference in entry fee to place a reserve. If the right buyer isn't in the room you'll be giving your car away.
Spend 2-3 hours putting your forum post or Autotrader ad together, be honest and take good quality photos. Those hours result in a higher price and a faster sale as your car will have the best ad. Find really good ads to get good background on the 74 model for your ads description, you may be educating a first time C3 buyer. I managed to get retail price for the car I sold on Autotrader and it only took 3 weeks. The buyer was from 3 states away. I'm sure it was due to the effort I put into the photos, the car's background and the honest description of the condition.
Good luck with your sale, hope it goes well for you.

Thanks for the info top gear you are very knowlegable and make some great points, but I have listed my C3 for the December Mecum auction in Austin with a reserve of $10K. If you dont gamble you cant win.

Down here I do not think that is bad gamble bud....
Good luck at the action - sounds like you are very reasonable with your price. I hope you get 2 interested buyers in the room that drive the price way past your reserve.
