Default Ignition or fuel break up?

Engine runs good when started. A bit hard starting. It does have mild cam however, I don't know what type. At higher rpm's 350 starts to loose power, breaking up. It will regain power then will loose power again, at times stalling. Also major popping when down shifting. Just need some thoughts here where to go. Ignition, timing, fuel pump, accelerator pump? Thanks.

Fuel- since it hits good, then drops off, then hits again. Sounds like a fuel delivery issue. I'd still check all the timing too. Popping on decel could be it's going lean or the exhaust is sucking air.

I just had the same problem. Cleaned the fuel filter element and set the float levels in the carb (Holley). I don't know what carb and filter set up you are using. It may simply be a fuel filter that needs to be replaced. Let us know what you found.

K. I'll check filter in carb. Holley. How would I check/set float level? Will timing be same as factory due to cam?

On the float bowls there is a brass plug, fuel level should just get the threads in the bowl wet when you shake the car or just barely above that.
Timing will most likely be a little more advanced than the factory specs due to more cam.
