Photo of my '76. Rear bumper has deteriorated to the point where pieces are dropping off like a glacier melting into the arctic ocean.

I feel your pain
I vividly recall , throwing up the garage door one morning , pretty much my whole original rear bumper cover was on the floor behind the car
Sucks ......but at least it didn't fly off going down the road like my front cover . That was embarrassing .
So .......buy a Eckler tru flex FG replacement and your set for life .

Quite normal. My '76's went around 1989, getting only 13 or so years out of it.
