First of all I would like to introduce myself. My name is Chris and I am from Mobile,Al. I have recently purchased a 1981 and 1 headlight will not close. The guy I bought it from stated there was a override switch for this but he wasn't sure where it was, I am trying to find it. Anyone have a clue where this is located or have any other advice? Thanks in advance.
Thanks, I found it but the light still will not come down. I will take it in the morning to a corvette shop and get them to help me. I appreciate all the help.
Unless the lamps were opened using the vacuum override switch, it shouldn't close open lamps.
When you pull the override **** down, the headlamp doors will open. Pushing the **** back up, closes the doors. If the **** wasn't pulled down to open the doors, then it won't close headlight doors that are opened.
The headlight doors normally open and close, when the headlights are turned on and off. The purpose of the override was to allow the owner to open the lamps, with out turning on the headlights. This was so that you could clean the headlights, or leave them open in snowy or icy weather.
If the doors won't close with the override, then you have a problem with a vacuum actuator, relay valve or a vacuum hose.
