Default AC Question

I have a 1969 corvette L46

My AC hasn't been used for years.. (lots of years) and it is open .. so exposed to the atmosphere.

I am going to replace the evaporator and the blower motor because the engine is now out and after the engine is in they will be very difficult to replace (for me anyway)

I am also going to replace the dryer because it is r12 compatable and I'm thinking I should move over to using R134.

Should I also replace the expansion valve and the POA valve?

Compressor may be OK.. not sure. I am going to try to use it as well as the condenser .. (although I've read where the condenser should be larger for R134.

Need your opinion .. I am an AC caveman.

Thanks

I would not go with 134a. Your system was designed for R12 which is still readily available, EBay around $30/12 oz can. I would go with a new evaporator due to its age and ease of install with eng out. I'd also replace the valves to eliminate possible problems when getting the system fired up. Also, the dryer needs replacement and should be swapped out when ever the system is opened.

The hoses should also be replaced as I be amazed if they weren't toast. We're it me, I'd also replace the compressor as they're not that expensive. The condenser I'd stay with but would give it a good flushing. GM made good condensers back then. I would not replace the blower motor if it works.

If you don't have the budget, you could stay with both valves as it's possible that one are both are okay. I'd personally would just replace them. Keep in mind that if the job is done right, you'll have years of a trouble free a/c system. Good luck.

Thanks Jud .. I'll reconsider using r134... I was concerned with loading up the system with R12 ... then something not working requiring disassembly and another reload with R12 .. expensive. Thanks again.
