Default 1976 Ext Antenna Question

This is the antenna that came with my 1976. As you can see the nut part doesn't really fit and its a sloppy fit at best. The chrome bottom is also scratching the new paint.
Looking at antennas on ebay and their parts, this doesn't seem to be even the correct part(s).
The antenna mast itself is collapsable in 2 or 3 segments and not electric.
Any help moving me in the right direction to fix this awful fit?
I don't care that much about "correct year" part as it works fine, I just want it to fit nice...

Replace the whole Antenna with a universal fit or a N.O.S. before it wrecks the paint.
